About a month ago -- whenever MLK Day was -- I didn't realize I had a precious 3-day weekend until the Thursday before and couldn't get my life in order fast enough to jet away to some exotic isle. Also, being a jet-setter costs more money than my budget can handle right now, and all my friends that I might visit on a whim are married at this point anyway...no, I take that back, they all have babies now -- so...
...I easily convinced two fellow Singletons to check out the new Tanger Outlets at National Harbor with me.
Outlet malls have long been reserved for road trips home and trips to the beach. And I know this is a first world problem, but it's really hard to get all those emails about the sales, knowing I will miss them all every time, y'all! Sad face!
I'd heard late last year these outlets were coming, and I didn't even realize they were open until I had to find something to do with my holiday and noticed J. Crew was having a 40% off sale and I was invited to check it out online or at National Harbor!
It was a 20-minute drive from DC to National Harbor, and parking was plentiful. It wasn't even that crowded, but I bet once word spreads about their opening it will be worse.
I really only wanted to go to J. Crew, but we hit up Banana Republic and Calvin Klein as well. I got a couple of things at Banana, but my best find was at J. Crew.
Originally I told myself I was only going to buy one of their pencil skirts, which are the best pencil skirts to have ever been designed, in case you're looking for any.
But in the checkout line, I noticed my friend K had this bracelet:
"WHERE DID YOU FIND THAT!" I asked her, flabbergasted.
"Over there with the other bracelets. It's just like the one..."
"THAT EVERYONE HAS..."
"BUT SMALLER!!!" she finished.
She held my place in line as I darted to the accessories table. I couldn't believe it! I'd been looking at the large ones on ebay lately (J. Crew sells them for $125).
And I'd tried on a knockoff at Target ($19.99) before I took the plunge just to make sure I loved it as much as I thought I did.
But when I finally had it on, it was way too clunky for my tiny wrist and elfin hands. I was explaining all this to K as she nodded exuberantly.
"I know! I did the exact same thing!" she said. "This one is the same idea and looks so much better with our tiny hands!"
It really was just as nice, with the same glitter and soft gold as the larger one, as well as little details like the rhinestone charm at the clasp. And with the MLK Day sale, it was only $21!
I can't find it on the factory or main website, but I had checked out J. Crew factory online before we went, and I didn't see it there either a month ago. I'm pretty sure I would have noticed it, because it's exactly what I've been wanting but better! Definitely worth a look if you happen to be by some outlets, or, if you're in the DC area, it's a great time of year to go check out the ones at National Harbor.
